Courses and information

Ice Technician pathway

Ontario’s Ice Technicians are among the best in the world. The Ontario Curling Council is committed to providing ongoing training and support so that Curling facilities have access to personnel who can create great ice surfaces for curling facilities in Ontario.

Curling Canada’s Ice Technician Training and Certification Pathway consists of five distinct opportunities that address the needs of two distinct types of locations: within curling centres, and within arena settings (a non-dedicated curling facility) where major championships are held. The Ontario Curling Council is the delivery agent for the Assistant and Head Ice Technician training programs, whereas Curling Canada is the delivery agent for the Competition Ice Technician program. Each of the Assistant, Head, and Chief Ice Technician training programs has as online education component coupled with hands-on instruction.

Transfer Plan

Ice Technicians who were previously trained or certified in the “Levels system” will be granted equivalencies as outlined at right. If a technician was partially through training in the levels system, bridging plans to complete training are also detailed at right.

This program is designed for individuals who will work under the guidance of a Certified Head Ice Technician. The Assistant Ice Technician (AIT) program is ideal for volunteers or young people who will help with daily maintenance and draw change procedures.

These individuals may need to supervise Assistant Curling Ice Technicians as well.
