Certification Requirements for Time Clock Officials
There are four required components that candidates must have in order to become a fully-certified Time Clock Operator / Observer Official:
- Complete the self-taught Time Clock Operator Course
- Complete the self-taught Observer Course
- Practical experience must be attained and recorded on the form found here.
- Complete the practical requirement of a minimum of six games of officiating experience under the supervision of a Level 3, 4 or 5 Chief Umpire at a Curling Canada Member Association or Curling Canada Canadian championship and receive a positive evaluation. Submit the completed Time Clock Operator/Observer practical form to the OCC.
Candidates may also required to acquire and maintain their own Criminal Background Checks. These must be on file with one of our Member Associations (Curling Ontario or NOCA) (see below).
Certification Requirements for Member Association Game Umpires
There are four required components that candidates must have in order to become fully-certified Level 2 Curling Officials.
In Ontario, Game Umpire Certification = Time Clock Operator (Level 1) Certified + Training + Practical Experience + Valid Criminal Record Check + Making Ethical Decisions Evaluation.
- Time Clock Operator/Observer Certification
- Attend a Game Umpire Training Course (contact your Member Association for dates and location of upcoming courses)
- Complete and pass the Game Umpire exam (open book); 70% required
- Complete the practical requirement of a minimum of six games total of game umpire experience at two Curling Canada Member Association championships under the supervision of Level 3, 4 or 5 Chief Umpires and receive positive evaluations.
The completed log sheets must then be emailed to the OCC. You will receive a confirmation when you have completed all of the required components for certification.
Candidates are also required to acquire and maintain their own Criminal Background Checks. These must be on file with one of our member Associations (Curling Ontario or NOCA) (see below).
