Curling at Post-Secondary Institutions

Curling at Ontario colleges and universities

Various post secondary institutions across Ontario and Canada have Curling as part of their athletic offering. Different schools take different approaches to the sport, with some schools incorporating active Varsity teams while others offer only  recreational curling.  Some athletic departments are working to get support to build new programs.  In support of these programs and to build awareness, the Ontario Curling Council presents this listing of active programs.

If you wish to know if your school has a curling program please check our list.  Please be advised, however, that only schools that have submitted information to the OCC are listed. Exclusion from the lists does NOT mean a school does not have a program, only that we have not received information on that program to date.

Program administrators who wish to add or modify the information we have for your University or College program,  please fill out this FORM.

If you have any questions, or wish to modify your submission. please email Sean Turriff (sean@curlingontario.ca).

Post-secondary Curling Programs

At present, Ontario Colleges are part of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and nationally are part of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Student-athletes in College programs compete at the OCAA championships held each spring in both 4-person events and in mixed doubles. Medallists at the provincial championship may be invited to participate at the national CCAA championships, which are normally co-located with the national U-Sport university championships.

For university programs, curling is a varsity sport within Ontario University Athletics (OUA). In Ontario, university curling has a history spanning over 40 years, and the format of university championships has changed several times through the decades. In the past, the Ontario championships involved independent regional events for the OUA East and West conferences, followed by an 8-team provincial championship. More recently, the OUA runs two separate provincial championships for men and women 4-player teams with 16 teams in each. Currently, mixed doubles is not a varsity sport in the OUA. Medallists at the OUA provincial championships may be invited to the U-Sport national university championships held in March each year and organized by Curling Canada. In alternating years, the winner of the Canadian university championship goes on to compete at the FISU World University Winter Games (Universiade) as Team Canada.
