Summer Curling Camps – BIPOC Youth
The Ontario Curling Council (OCC) recognizes that the sport of curling is not as diverse or inclusive as it should be. We recognize that more needs to be done for BIPOC individuals to feel a sense of belonging in the sport of curling. The OCC is committed to facilitating change within curling to provide more opportunities for racialized curlers.
In an effort to support increased diversity in curling, the OCC is looking for three young curlers aged 12 to 18 who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) who are interested in attending one of our summer camps (Amethyst – North Bay, Ontario or Trillium – Waterloo, Ontario).
Thanks to a grant from Curling Canada, we are able to pay the registration fees for three BIPOC youth to attend one of our summer curling camps. One athlete will be chosen from the NOCA (Northern Ontario Curling Association) region, one from the CurlON region and one from either. All recipients will be randomly selected from those who apply. CurlON recipients will be given the choice of which week to attend a Trillium Camp (Week A – Aug. 6-11 / Week B – Aug. 13-18) and NOCA recipients will attend the Amethyst Camp (July 9-14).
The deadline to apply was 9:00 am March 13, 2023.
Due to the low number of responses from the NOCA region, the Lottery has been extended for NOCA athletes only until March 30, 2023 at 9:00am. Winners from the NOCA region will be notified by April 7, 2023. Thank you to all who submitted your names for the draw.
