For the 2022-2023 season, the Ontario Curling Council will be piloting a new program. The Academy Team Project is a Training Group for individuals, with dedicated coaching, testing, curriculum and competitions management.
The primary goal of this pilot program is to evaluate how coach led team formation can impact player development in the Train to Train / Train to Compete stage of development. The focus will be on DEVELOPMENT of athletes. Another goal of the program is to determine if regional based, coach led and selected teams can be effective for attracting and expanding the number of athletes who play competitively.
The OCC will host an Academy Camp to be held Saturday April 30 / Sunday May 1 at the Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club. The two day camp is for individual athletes who will be U18 eligible in the 2022/23 season (age less than 18 as of June 30, 2023). Both on ice and off ice instruction will be provided to attendees. The camp will also serve as the try out camp for the OCC U18 Academy Teams. There will be a limit of 40 total athletes at the camp (20 boys and 20 girls – separate registrations see below) though a wait list will be maintained. If the camp is full when you try to register, please email Sean Turriff (sturriff@ontcurl.com) to be added to the wait list.
All athletes attending the camp will require a Curler Profile (if you do not already have one with the OCC). All attendees will also required to complete Safe Sport training prior to attending the camp.
ALL ATTENDEES ARE REQUIRED TO BE FULLY VACCINATED TO ATTEND THE CAMP. Other restrictions may be in place at the camp in adherence with the public health guidelines in place at the time of the camp.
The details for consideration for the Academy Team can be found below. This will be the only try out date / location for the Academy Team. Athletes must meet eligibility requirements to be considered for the team. This will also serve as a networking opportunity for individuals looking for teams for the 2022/23 season.
