We are seeking a Manager, Programs and Operations to join our team and lead our organization by overseeing all operational and financial aspects of the Ontario Curling Council (OCC). Expected start date July 15, 2024 or earlier.

Organization
The Ontario Curling Council (formerly Curl Ontario), a non-profit organization incorporated in 1981, is the recognized provincial sport organization for the sport of curling in Ontario. Its membership includes the Northern Ontario Curling Association (NOCA) and CurlON. The Ontario Curling Council was formed to act in a coordinating role between its member associations and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport (Ontario Government).

Working together with CurlON and NOCA, the OCC is committed to improving athlete performance, increasing opportunities for Ontarians to curl, supporting programs and services, and improving the strength of curling clubs through education, programming and expertise.

Job Overview
Responsible for the general operations of the Ontario Curling Council, the Manager, Programs and Operations will report to the Chair, of the Ontario Curling Council.

Responsibilities of the Manager, Programs and Operations will include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the Executive Directors of the Member Associations to execute the organization’s Strategic Plan
  • Human Resource Management (employees and contractors of the OCC will report to the Manager, Programs and Operations) – includes regular communications, annual performance reviews, assignment of tasks, monitoring of employee attendance, work performance, etc.
  • Governance – with the Ontario Curling Council Board (and Member Associations) – maintain – bylaws, policies, planning documents (Strategic Plans, Operational Plans, High Performance Plans), Board meetings, Annual General Meetings, Special Meetings. Set agenda for board meetings, provide supporting documentation.
  • Government Liaison – serve as the point of contact and representative for curling in Ontario to the Ontario Government – this includes annual Ontario Amateur Sport Fund application and reporting, Sport Recognition Policy Compliance, Quest for Gold Program Administration
  • Set the organization’s annual budget, report on it monthly and adhere to the financial policy when overseeing the financial activities of the organization. Support the organization’s annual audit of financials
  • Risk Management – maintain the risk registry and execute risk mitigation plans, ensure annual insurance requirements are met
  • Multisport representative – serve as point of contact and attend meetings with the Coaches Association of Ontario, Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario, Ontario Sport Network, others as required
  • Ensure equity, diversity and inclusion are considered in all Ontario Curling Programming
  • Establish Ontario’s Sport Safety Program for all participants and stakeholders. Work with MA colleagues to train staff in implementation of Sport Safety Standards
  • Grant writing – maximize revenues for OCC through additional grants
  • Administer National Sport Trust Fund with Sport for Ontario
  • Parasport Programming – Lead wheelchair athlete recruitment and development, operate Ontario Wheelchair Open Bonspiel
  • Games Program – responsible for all aspects of operating the Ontario Winter Games, Ontario Parasport Games and the Canada Winter Games qualification process for Ontario
  • Maintain/Oversee content of www.curlinginontario.ca
  • Represent Ontario on Curling Canada committees – including but not limited to Podium Pathway, Youth Curling – contribute expertise where able.
  • Work with High Performance Manager to establish selection criteria for High Performance Programs
  • Coordinate U15 Triples/Challenge Cup events.
  • Oversee activities of Education Manager in delivery of coach, official and ice technician development.

Requirements

  • Self-driven, highly motivated and displays strategic thinking
  • Clear criminal record check
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire others
  • Must be able to travel within province and nationally on occasion, a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required
  • Previous financial and project management experience working with budgets of up to $1 million
  • Highly ethical behaviour
  • Marketing and promotion experience with emphasis on social media engagement

Education and Experience

  • Post Secondary degree or diploma preferably in Business or Sport/Recreation Administration OR equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of management experience in non-profit sector, or working in a senior management and/or Executive Director role
  • Knowledge of curling, Ontario/Canadian Sport System is an asset
  • Prior successful experience working with a volunteer board of directors
