The Ontario Curling Council is once again running our Academy Team Project after a successful 2022/23 season.
The primary goal of this pilot program is to continue to evaluate how coach led team formation can impact player development in the Train to Train / Train to Compete stage of development. The focus will be on DEVELOPMENT of athletes. Another goal of the program is to determine if regional based, coach led and selected teams can be effective for attracting and expanding the number of athletes who play competitively.
The OCC will host two Academy Camp days to be held Saturday April 1 at the Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club and Saturday April 8 at the Mississauga Golf and Country Club. The camps are for individual athletes who will be U18 eligible in the 2023/24 season (age less than 18 as of June 30, 2023). Both on ice and off ice instruction will be provided to attendees. Attendees are not obligated to try out for the camp. U18 Athletes wishing to get late season training sessions are welcome without requiring to be considered for the camp. Athletes are welcome to attend both dates however, they only need to attend ONE of the two dates in order to be considered for the team. A follow up interview (virtual) will be conducted by the coaches as part of the assessment.
All athletes attending the camps will require a Curler Profile (if you do not already have one with the OCC). All attendees will also required to complete Safe Sport training prior to attending the camp.
The details for consideration for the Academy Team can be found below. These will be the only try out dates / locations for the Academy Team. Athletes must meet eligibility requirements to be considered for the team. This will also serve as a networking opportunity for individuals looking for teams for the 2023/24 season.
