Forget named Competitions and Development Coordinator

Following a public search process, a hiring committee comprised of staff and board members representing the Ontario Curling Council (OCC) and Northern Ontario Curling Association (NOCA) are pleased to announce the hiring of Laura Forget of Corbeil, Ontario to the position of Competitions and Development Coordinator for a 19-month contract beginning on October 4^th, 2021.

Forget, a lifelong curler, has competed on the provincial stage in mixed and women’s play. From throwing her first rock at the McIntyre Curling Club in Timmins to being a respected volunteer and player in the North Bay curling community, Laura has benefited from a life shaped by curling – even having met her husband when the couple teamed up to win the New Liskeard Summerspiel as teenagers.

In her role, Forget will be responsible to OCC for coordinating official and ice technician training programs, scheduling and staffing development courses, managing the winter games program, and maintaining databases. With NOCA, Forget will oversee all functions of competitions including, but not limited to, registration, scheduling, draws, maintaining records, and providing support to host committees and event volunteers.

The joint hiring initiative is demonstrative of an elevated commitment to alignment between the two governing sport organizations responsible for supporting curling centres and athletes in Northern Ontario. With competitions set to return this fall alongside an enduring desire to maintain heightened levels of service to members and business development induced by the pandemic, this move will ensure that sufficient human resources are available to champion said diversified priorities.

With the capacity gained from Forget’s appointment, the chief executives at the Ontario Curling Council and Northern Ontario Curling Association have their sights set on leading their member facilities through a recovery from COVID-19 and into a reimagined delivery of the sport in Ontario. Moreover, the OCC’s two Education Managers (north and south) have been promoted to new portfolios which will see Sean Turriff become the Manager of High Performance while Andrea Ronnebeck will expand her influence as the sole Education Manager for the entire province.
