Changes to the NCCP Make Ethical Decision module affecting Competition Coach “Trained” coaches
The Ontario Curling Council would like to share an important upcoming change to the NCCP Make Ethical Decisions (MED) module that will affect coaches across all sports, including curling.
Effective April 1, 2026, the Coaching Association of Canada will be replacing the current two-step MED process (training + online evaluation) with a single, combined e-learning module that will include both training and evaluation. This new module will be housed directly in The Locker.
As of March 31, 2026, the MED evaluation challenge for “trained” coaches will no longer be recognized in The Locker.
These changes will directly impact current Competition Coach “Trained” coaches who challenged the Make Ethical Decision Evaluation in order to achieve their status.
These coaches will need to complete their Competition Coach evaluation before March 31, 2026 or they will be required to take the NEW Make Ethical Decision module at an additional cost.
In order to facilitate a Competition Coach Evaluation registration for evaluations must be received by March 9th, 2026 to ensure completion before March 31, 2026. More information about Competition Coach evaluations below.
“Trained” & “In-Training” Coaches Check your Locker Profile
Please review your MED status in The Locker. If your Locker profile does not show Make Ethical Decisions under “Training” AND only under “Evaluation” – you challenged the evaluation.
These changes will also impact coaches who have taken the MED workshop and not completed the evaluation. These coaches must ensure they also complete the online evaluation by March 31, 2026.
Additional information about the impact of these changes can be found in the chart below and from the Coaching Association of Canada. For questions about the changes and the Competition Coach Evaluation, please contact education@ontcurl.com
Competition Coach Evaluation
In order to receive a “Certified” Competition Coach status, coaches must successfully complete the Curling on-ice Evaluation. Coaches wishing to pursue evaluation must:
Complete a Competition Coach Evaluation Request – you will be required to upload your completed practice plan, emergency action plan and athlete profile.
Pay your evaluation fee of $180 + HST.
When your plan is approved (revisions may be required) you will be notified by email. We will put you in touch with a local evaluator to set up a time for your evaluation.
Competition Coach Evaluation registration for evaluations must be received by March 9th, 2026 to ensure completion before March 31, 2026.
