Training for time-clock operators and umpires
Officials Development Pathway
The Ontario Curling Council (OCC), CurlON and the Northern Ontario Curling Association (NOCA) value the contribution of curling’s officials from club events to international events hosted within the province. While curling is known as the “gentlemen’s sport,” and requires very few officials, the role officials play is vital in the operation of the 50+ provincial competitions and their qualification events that occur each season.
Curling Canada Framework for Officials
The previous “level” system for officials has been replaced with new descriptions of officials’ responsibilities. These are:
- Time Clock Operator / Observer Official (previously Level 1)
- Curling Canada Member Association Game Umpire (previously Level 2)
- Level 3 Umpire – Curling Canada Member Association Chief Umpire
- Level 4 Umpire – National Game Umpire, Deputy Chief Umpire & Chief Umpire
- Level 5 Umpire – National Chief Umpire

Workshops
The Ontario Curling Council conducts officials training as per the needs of its member associations, CurlON and the Northern Ontario Curling Association. These workshops are part of Curling Canada’s Officials Training program.
