The Ontario Curling Council (OCC) and its members, the Ontario Curling Association and the Northern Ontario Curling Association have collaborated and will jointly host the OCC webinar series for coach and athlete development.
Certified Coaches and athletes alike will be able to learn from some of the games most qualified subject matter experts on a variety of topics. The OCC is aiming to “fill” the season with meaningful learning opportunities for coaches and curlers to access. Certified coaches will earn valuable professional development credits towards their Maintenance of Certification.

Topic: Strategy for Club Curlers

This webinar will explore the strategic approach to curling leading to a methodology for calling shots in a game. There will be information on establishing plans from the game level down to the end level and an examination of what tactics are appropriate for executing those plans. Finally these concepts will be brought together to give participants a way to think through situations and to make more effective shot calls.

Sean Turriff is a Competition Development Certified coach and an Ontario Curling Association Learning Facilitator. He has actively coached numerous competitive teams and taught at a variety of camps. He is currently the Varsity Men’s coach for the reigning Canadian College champion men’s curling team at Humber College and is the author of Curling: Steps to Success.

The webinar on practice will assist coaches with giving their team’s game & skill direction & focus. We will deal with the roles of commitment & interest, getting comfortable w/ being uncomfortable in practice & games. We will also examine the importance of kinetic memory & striving for excellence through the use of the 4 pillars of performance in practices. How to develop deliberate practice habits, encouraging and promoting a teachable spirit, having a plan and the role of feedback will also be discussed.
About the Presenter: Maurice Wilson
Maurice Wilson has coached for 30 years in various sports from fast-pitch softball at a national level, to basketball, soccer, track & field, cricket and ice hockey at a senior level. He is an NCCP Competition Development certified coach & evaluator for Curling and has coached 15 teams to the provincials and 5 to nationals.
The teams he has coached have won titles at the Bantam provincials in 2001, Juniors in 2003, OUA’s in 2011, 2012, 2014 and CIS nationals in 2011 & 2012. He was the recipient of the Asham Coaching Award in 2003 & 2004 for provincials accomplishments and CIS Coach of the Year in 2011 & 2012. In 2012 the team he was coaching won gold at the Karuizawa International Curling championship in Japan. Maurice is also very active in the curling community as a Provincial High Performance Coach since 2006 and a provincial Learning Facilitator and evaluator since 2005.
